New funding available for plastics recycling in London

10 January 2007 – Around £3m in capital investment funding and business advice and support is up for grabs and could benefit London’s plastics recycling sector.

The London Development Agency will distribute £2m worth of funding among the recycling sector through its enhance business support programme.

A further £925,000 for providing business support and advice has also been given to the enhance service, which is run by London Remade and the London Community Recycling Network.

The range of services enhance offers has been increased so it can support larger companies looking to expand their operations as well as continue to work with SMEs.

Jamie Blake, director of resource management, told PRW.com: "enhance has identified plastics as priority materials because they are prevalent in London's waste. This waste is actually a valuable resource, which can be reprocessed and remanufactured into new products. We want to hear from businesses that work with plastics and are interested in using their waste innovatively to grow and develop their business."

During enhance’s first 18 months it helped create over 170 green enterprises in the capital and hopes to help create another 20 businesses and 200 jobs over the next 18 months.

Blake added: “With 17 million tonnes of waste produced in London each year, we hope to make a major impact in helping create and attract new recycling businesses to London.”
