ContiTech plans to buy Thermopol

4 January 2007 – ContiTech, the rubber and plastics multinational based in Hanover, has announced plans to purchase Thermopol International Ltd, the UK manufacturer of silicone hoses.

The details of the deal, which will require the approval of the German Federal Cartel Office, have yet to be finalised, but ContiTech said the new acquisition “fits” into its Fluid Technology business unit.

In 2005/2006, Thermopol achieved sales of ˆ45m with a 500-strong workforce, supplying specialist silicone hoses primarily for the automotive market.

According to its website, Thermopol has manufacturing operations in China and South Korea, and in 2006 the company established a plant in Romania.

ContiTech’s Fluid Technology unit has a worldwide workforce of 9,000 and in 2005 produced sales of approximately ˆ994m.
