3 January 2007 – Newly formed RJ Plastics has been licensed by powder impression moulding specialist 3DM to make construction, modular housing and material handling products on up to five PIM lines in the Midlands, UK.
RJ Plastics, which was set up specifically to exploit PIM technology, is paying 3DM £150,000 in staged payments as well as royalty payments based on the volume of production. The founders of the company have a strong association with the Salvation Army and have been working with Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council on the supply of waste plastic for use in the PIM process.
“We see significant benefits in using the PIM process not only to utilise waste plastics materials which would have been destined for landfill but also for the significant competitive advantage we can gain on a range of products,” said Richard Campbell, director of RJ Plastics.
According to Niall MacKay, chief executive of 3DM, further commercial arrangements will be announced in the next few weeks. The company is in negotiations in both Kenya and Tanzania. “A number of new opportunities, although at early stages, are also moving forward,” he said.
