Plastic Logic to build plastics electronics factory
3 January 2007 – Plastic Logic, the UK firm specialising in printed electronic devices using semiconducting polymers, has announced plans to build a commercial-scale factory in Dresden, Germany.
Scheduled to begin production in 2008, the plant will fabricate active-matrix display modules for products such as portable electronic books.
Based in Cambridge, Plastic Logic has secured $100m in financing from venture capitalists and says the initial capacity of the factory will be of the order of one million display modules per year.
“Our displays will enable electronic reader products that are as comfortable and natural to read as paper whether your’re on a beach, in a train or relaxing on the sofa at home,” said John Mills, Plastic Logic’s chief operating officer.
