Klöckner Pentaplast sets up pilot bottle recycling plant
8 December 2006 – Films giant Klöckner Pentaplast and recycling group Alba have agreed to jointly set up a PET bottle recycling pilot plant at Eisenhüttenstadt in Germany.
The €5m joint venture company, PET-Co, will be managed by Klöckner Pentaplast which will transfer its proprietary technology from its Americas business. Recycled PET bottle will be used to manufacture film for food, general purpose thermoforming, boxmaking packaging applications and other technical applications.
The 1,500 square metre facility will have the capacity to produce 15,000 tonnes of PET flake each year. It is scheduled to start up in the first quarter of 2007 and will create 30 new jobs.
Jo Kreuzburg, president and COO of Klöckner Pentaplast/Europe and Asia, said: “As the leading global film producer, Klöckner Pentaplast is proactively addressing the challenges of resource utilisation, environmental impact and sustainability and is taking a lead in responsibly identifying and implementing solutions.”
Klöckner Pentaplast said the investment was a “voluntary action towards fulfilling the 36% recycling target specified in German packaging regulations”.
