30 November 2006 – PVC recycler Shredtec Recyclers is planning to expand its Oldham facility in the UK in an investment worth up to £1m.
A proposed purpose-built plant on a three-acre site adjoining Shredtec’s existing operation would be capable of processing up to 6 tonnes of waste PVC per hour, 50% more than the current 4 tonnes per hour. Investment in new buildings and plant includes two mobile shredders, a conveyor system and metal detecting/sorting equipment.
The new facility will be capable of processing whole PVC window frames. It has recycling contracts with large UK window companies, such as Anglian and Safestyle UK.
Shredtec is hoping to gain funding from the Construction Waste Recycling Infrastructure Capital Support Programme, recently launched by Wrap. The programme provides up to 30% of eligible capital costs.
Recycling of PVC profiles and window frames has been increasing in the UK as the construction and building sector looks to divert waste from landfill (PRW.com 14 November).
As well as taking deliveries at its Oldham plant, Shredtec is working with PVC Group to provide a national collection service. It is also offering a mobile shredder service for higher volumes of frames to be shredded at customers’ premises.
Shredtec managing director Ian Murray said: “With demand so great for PVC recyclate and pressure growing to dispose of waste PVC in an environmentally-friendly way, investing in the best facilities to handle the rising volumes makes sound business sense.”
