Honeywell to expand Chinese R&D

22 November 2006 – Honeywell, the resins and chemicals specialist, is to expand its Asia Technology Center in Shanghai to cover more research and development to meet customer needs in Asia and particularly China.

Around $3.2m will be spent to triple the laboratory space for speciality materials which occupies around 1,600 sq metres.

New areas of work will include a high bay area for a PVC extrusion line to develop, test and evaluate performance additives.

The lab expansion is part of a larger $13.5m expansion of the entire facility that opened in 2004 and is located in the Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai.

Around 40 employees work at the centre with another 20 expected to be employed when construction is finished in July 2007.

The Asia centre is one of Honeywell’s seven such centres worldwide and has 16 cooperative projects with Chinese universities.
