20 November 2006 – A.Schulman has completed a £300,000 expansion and refurbishment of the laboratory facilities at its Crumlin plant, near Newport in South Wales, which manufactures white, colour and additive masterbatch for the UK and export markets.
The laboratory now occupies 500 sq metres of floor space and provides a technical service/ analytical lab, QC facilities, a pilot process laboratory equipped with film making and injection moulding equipment as well as office space. A pilot manufacturing laboratory equipped with compounding equipment replicates the plant’s full scale processes.
The laboratory’s redevelopment puts facilities developed on an ad hoc basis over more than 30 years onto a more logical, ergonomic lay out with scope for further expansion, according to technical manager Bob Stanworth.
