Deceuninck to close US extrusion site

17 November 2006 – Deceuninck will close its PVC windows and profiles extrusion plant in Oakland, US, in what it says is the final part of site optimisation under its business plan.

Overall US production capacity will be unchanged, with the Oakland business consolidated into the company’s facilities in Monroe, Ohio and Little Rock, Arkansas.

Approximately 70 people will be affected by the consolidation and the company said it will “make every attempt to identify further employment opportunities for those employees”. The transition should be completed by the end of March 2007.

The Oakland plant became one of the Deceuninck North America production sites after it acquired Vinyl Building Products, part of Thyssen Polymer, in July 2003. Deceuninck North America holds a leading position in the US PVC window profile extrusion market with sales of $170m in 2005.

Deceuninck Group chief executive, Clement De Meersman, said: “The decision to close down production at the Oakland site is part of our worldwide platform and streamlining projects that were started after the acquisition of Thyssen Polymer in 2003. Through much improved operating efficiencies resulting from this action we will become a more competitive industry leader, which will strengthen our position as a leading supplier to the North American PVC window market.”
