14 November 2006 – The UK’s Europe-leading performance in the recycling of PVC products was one of the positive developments highlighted at the seminar held by the BPF’s Vinyls group earlier this month. The 2005 target figure of 3,000 tonnes was comfortably exceeded, Roger Morton of Recovinyl told 150 delegates at the Leicester venue. Last year, he said, the UK recycled 8,300 tonnes of window, pipe and flooring waste and with 5,000 tonnes dealt with so far this year, another positive year is assured.
Morton’s message to delegates to spread the word on the industry’s progress was in line with the theme of the day, outlined by group chairman Arkema’s Alex Hay when he urged the industry to “go on the front foot” in promoting PVC’s sustainability.
Aimed particularly at the construction and packaging sectors, the event featured speakers from Ineos Vinyls, Wavin, Tarkett Marley as well as environmental doyens Roger Mottram and Jason Leadbitter. The BPF’s Philip Law and Pifa chairman Steve Griffin of Klockner Pentaplast also took part in a day which featured a specific window profile workshop led by Mike Stevenson of Bowater Building Products.
“We are all working in a highly dynamic industry, well supported by extensive research and development,” Hay told delegates.
