October 2006 – Sales of plastics products in the UK are expected to grow by 10% over the next five years to reach £16.7bn (€24.8bn) in 2011, according to Market Business & Development.
The UK research group said that although intense price competition will limit growth, many end use sectors will show stronger demand.
UK demand for plastic packaging is forecast to reach £3.6bn (at 2006 prices) by 2011, an increase of 7% in real terms.
A strong growth rate of 16% is anticipated for plastic plates, sheets and profiles. This would take demand to £3.7bn (at 2006 prices) by 2011.
Building products and tubes/pipes are forecast to see increased demand of 11% and 13% respectively over the same period.
