Rohm and Haas, the acrylic polymer additives major, plans to build a 40,000tpa plant at Gebze, the site near Istanbul, Turkey, where its existing partner in the country, Polisan, is based. The US group has signed a letter of intent and is in final discussions with Polisan on the project.
The unit is being planned for an eventual capacity of 40,000tpa to meet fast growing demand for acrylic impact modifiers and processing aids from the local plastics industry and neighbouring markets.
Rohm and Haas is in an existing partnership with Polisan for the manufacture of emulsions for the paint market and working with the firm will speed up the additives project, it believes.
“Our focus is on delivering technically advanced products and services that enable the creation of leading edge consumer goods for end users,” says Patrice Barthelmes, vp and global business director, Plastics Additives at the Philadelphia-based group.
