At today's open house at its European headquarters in Malterdingen, Germany, Ferromatik has introduced a new series of Cap-Tec machines that have been developed as a solution dedicated for the moulding of closures.
The Cap-Tec range has been designed with an optimised hydraulic system, a short stroke clamp, reduced injection stroke and a smaller footprint and comes with a 5% lower price tag than the K-TEC machines.
The first Cap-Tec 300 machines are due to be delivered to customers in January. Thierry Fabozzi, who is product manager for the existing K-Tec range of machines at Ferromatik, revealed that Ferromatik also has plans to introduce 200 and 400 tonne Cap-Tec machines to handle 48- and 96-cavity moulds.
With cycle time cut by at least 0.5 seconds compared with using a K-Tec machines, Fabozzi says there will be a huge saving in closure production costs: the Cap-Tec machine in Malterdingen was seen moulding closures with 140.8g shot weight with cycle time of 3.5 secs.
Potential customers are foreseen to include companies presently making bottles that want to also make closures. This “in-sourcing” business model has been addressed by features of the Cap-Tec machines that include the ability of entering the number of cavities to be used via the control panel, with the equipment automatically closing off any surplus cavities in the mould that are not required.
