Solvay wins technology deal for Saudi PVC plant

Belgium ’s Solvay group has been selected as the technology provider for a 450,000tpa PVC plant in Jubail , Saudi Arabia , according to Middle East Economic Digest (MEED). The plant is to be operated by Arabian Petrochemical Company (Petrokemya) which is still in negotiation with possible licensors over technology for a 550,000tpa VCM plant.

Solvay will supply its proprietary technology for the suspension grade PVC unit which will be built at Jubail on the Gulf, one of the kingdom’s two petrochemical complexes. MEED, PRW.com’s sister publication in the Emap group, says that tenders for engineering, procurement and construction will be sought early next year.

Although PVC is made in the feedstock rich Middle East state, the emphasis of polymer investment up to now has been mainly in the polyolefins field.
