Lanxess has declared force majeure on supplies of ABS from its plant at Tarragona in Spain following a fire which hit the plant last week. The situation is likely to continue for the next few weeks, the company is warning.
“We will make every effort to minimise the effects of this incident on our customers,” pledged Dr Stefan Michel, head of the Europe and Latin America regions in the Styrenic business unit of Lanxess.
The precise cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are currently being investigated and Lanxess says that the incident will have no effect on its profits forecast for the current fiscal year.
The Tarragona site is taking on a more significant role in the overall Lanxess ABS business as the Bayer spin-off restructures its manufacturing network.
