German firm announces 16% rise in second quarter sales

BASF is optimistic about its full year results, following publication of its interim performance. Cumulative sales of almost ˆ25bn in the first half of 2006 were up 20% on the same period last year. The company said there were no signs of the usual summer lull and demand for its products remained strong.

The company stressed that the integration of new businesses was proceeding smoothly, among them being the takeover of Engelhard Corporation, the pigments and catalyst manufacturer. In a separate statement, BASF announced that it will rename Engelhard as part of its integration process. BASF Catalysts LLC has been registered in the US and BASF intends to extend the brand worldwide.

Engelhard businesses not included in the Catalysts division will operate under this new identity until plans are finalised, said BASF. The Appearance and Performance Technologies and Ventures businesses are due to be transferred to other BASF divisions.
