New mould design raises the bar in high cavitation preform production systems

Husky Injection Molding Systems showed a new 216-cavity preform mould on its stand at the NPE fair in Chicago, setting a new standard in the highly competitive preform market. The new mould, developed in partnership with Amcor PET Packaging, is designed for production of preforms with thread diameters up to 30mm. It is intended to run on a HyPET 650 machine, a new addition to the Husky product line that delivers throughput rates of up to 1,800 kg an hour.

The company says the 216-cavity mould design uses a 60mm spacing rather than the 50mm spacing more typically used on a 30mm preform. It claims this will prove more durable in service and will reduce ongoing maintenance costs for users. “We have had various concepts for 192-cavities and higher on the drawing board for some time but we wanted to ensure the hot runner and machine technologies were advanced enough to take full advantage of the increased cavitation,” said Husky president and chief executive John Galt.
