The tiebarless machines will mould pipe fittings

Polypipe in the UK has ordered 17 injection moulding machines from Engel in one of the largest purchases the sector has enjoyed for many months. The bulk of the machines, of the Austrian company’s tiebarless design, will be delivered in August for moulding the company’s range of pipe fittings at its Doncaster site. Ranging in size from 80 to 300 tonnes clamp force, the machines are all PVC-specified and configured with wide guarding for pipe fitting tools.

The order also includes 48 sprue pickers from Engel’s USP range which will be delivered in phases as the Doncaster-based firm modernises its facility. Polypipe operations director Cameron McLellan said: “The purchase of Engel machinery is part of a significant strategic investment by our new independent owners to further reinforce Polypipe’s market leading position. Our comprehensive selection process identified that Engel injection moulding machines offer us superior performance in many areas, especially reductions in tool change time which complements our drive for increased efficiency.” Fitted with the Engel quick mould changing system, the fleet of new machines will enable Polypipe
