Lanxess retains SAN business in North America and Asia

Lanxess has sold its Lustran SAN product line in Europe and South America to BASF for an undisclosed sum. The deal covers customer lists, patent licences and product stocks for the 14,000tpa transparent polymer business.

Lanxess will retain the plant and switch it to the manufacture of ABS specialities and will continue to supply North American and Asian customers with SAN. The company is spending E16m to expand the Tarragona site in Spain which is the focus for its styrenics business in Europe. BASF said the deal will strengthen the position which it enjoys in the SAN market with its Luran material.
