PET unit will be dedicated to PepsiCo drinks

Amcor’s PET Packaging Division is investing $80m (E63m) in a new custom PET blow moulding plant in the US to supply PepsiCo with heat set containers, primarily for the company’s Gatorade product. The new operation is to be located at Wythville, in Virginia, adjacent to a new facility recently completed by PepsiCo. Due on stream next March, Amcor’s facility will have an initial capacity of more than one billion units per annum.

“This project is a strong fit with our stated strategy of investing in the custom PET sector,” said Ken McKenzie, managing director and chief executive of the Australian packaging giant. “Amcor brings excellent technology to the fast growing hot filled beverage segment. This is a world class large-scale plant co-located with a customer who is a leader in this market segment.”
