The PS Ellan PS rocking chair is moulded in Sweden by Nolato

Extrusion compounding machinery manufacturer Coperion Werner & Pfleiderer displayed Ikea’s PS Ellan rocking chairs made in wood plastic composite (WPC) on its stand at the 6th Global Wood and Natural Fibre Composites Symposium in Kassel, Germany last week. The chair was designed by Chris Martin as one of the PS “what if?” innovative programme ideas created by 28 designers for the Swedish furniture store group. It involves six WPC parts that click together to make the chair, without use of tools.

Coperion has supplied WPC compounding equipment to Scandinavian Wood Fiber in Orsa, Sweden, a producer of wood fibre reinforced compounds for both injection moulding and profile extrusion. Production manager Johny Persson and told PRW.com the WPC material it produces is moulded into parts for the chair at Nolato STG in Lönsboda, Sweden.

The through-coloured unpainted PS Ellan chair is available in black, turquoise and white. Ikea says that it can be kept clean by simply wiping with firstly a damp cloth, then a dry cloth.
