Ferromatik halves cycle time for mobile phone housings
Ferromatik’s stand at the Chinaplas event next month will showcase what it claims is a new world record – a 6-second cycle time for moulding two-component mobile phone housings.
It will be demonstrated on a 110-tonne K-TEC-2F injection moulding machine with a 1+1 cavity mould. The application usually requires a machine with 200 tonne clamping force and a 2+2 cavity mould, and a much longer 18 seconds moulding time.
According to Ferromatik, the fast cycle time has been possible due to a number of factors, among them the fast parallel movements of the machine, a high-quality mould with impulse cooling and a fast turntable and robot handling system. Under real production conditions an 8-second cycle time is realistic.
Thomas Schwarzer, sales manager for Eastern Europe and Asia, said: “The advantages are obvious, investment costs for machine and mould are lowered, the production system requires less space, and this is quite often an important criterion in making a decision to purchase, and not only in China.”
