Borealis to shut HDPE plant

Borealis has confirmed it is to close its high density polyethylene plant in Bamble, Norway (PRW.com 3 February). The 110,000tpa plant is the least competitive in the Borealis group and has been losing money for several years.

Roy Vardheim, general manager Borealis Scandinavia, said: “Our aim is to now focus on improving competitiveness of our low density polyethylene and polypropylene plants in Bamble in synergy with the total operations of hub Scandinavia and on cost competitive feedstock opportunities in the region.” The closure will affect approximately 100 employees.
