German firm installs a new twin-screw extruder

German masterbatch and compounding company Lehmann & Voss is installing a new twin-screw extruder at its plant in Hamburg to meet growing demand for its Luvocom products. The Luvocom compounds are divided into five product families: electrically conductive, lubricant-modified, carbon fibre reinforced, high-temperature resistant and thermally conductive materials.

The compounds have customer-specific applications and are usually manufactured in smaller quantities. They are used in the electrical and electronic industries, the construction of machinery and apparatus as well as in medical technology. Head of the Luvocom business unit, Kurt Napientek, said: “The new extruder will help us to make the use of tailor-made compounds even more interesting in economic terms. The plant will also enable us to further expand our product spectrum.”

He said there is a rising trend towards product miniaturisation and hence towards components subject to high stresses. This is spurring technical demands particularly on the materials used.
