Nypro second factory at Guangzhou will house 60 machines

Nypro is building a second factory in Guangzhou, China, in an investment worth more than £5m (E3.7m). Chief executive Brian Jones announced the new 7,400 sq metre plant will open in February 2005 and be extended to 9,500 sq metres in May. It will include 60 fully-robotised injection moulding machines ranging in size from 50 to 450 tonnes clamping force.

The site at Yi Xing Industrial Estate, Panyu, will employ 250 staff initially. The plant will manufacture precision injection mouldings on a contract basis, with facilities for in-mould decorating and labelling, bi-component moulding, and insert or over-moulding.

Nypro currently operates nine other plants in China, including a 6,300 sq metre factory at Guangzhou that has 38 moulding machines. Here, it is also investing in a new chain-on-edge painting line, to be installed alongside two existing robotic painting lines.

Jones said the growth at Guangzhou is meeting customer demand for plastics-based electronics and telecommunications contract manufacturing as well as healthcare products, which are beginning to find growing demand in China.
