Lanxess Corp. is moving into its new headquarters near Pittsburgh

Lanxess Corp. is moving into its new headquarters near Pittsburgh and will close its Akron polymers sales and service office by early next year. The former Bayer AG chemicals and elastomers business will reassign the Akron employees to offices in other locations.

Lanxess is moving by Nov. 1 into new quarters in Findlay Township in Allegheny County, near the Pittsburgh Airport, not far from Bayer’s 300-acre headquarters in Robinson Township. The 104,000-square-foot site will house up to 435 employees.

Lanxess said it will make Allegheny County the seat of its corporate headquarters and laboratories for its U.S. businesses. It will invest about $10 million in Pennsylvania during the next three years.

In return, Pennsylvania officials agreed to provide nearly $1.9 million in assistance, in the form of a Pennsylvania Opportunity Grant (up to $872,000), job-training assistance ($554,000) and job-creation tax credits ($435,000). Allegheny County pledged a Community Development Block Grant of up to $200,000.

At the same time, Bayer Corp. said it will maintain its U.S. headquarters near Pittsburgh and invest about $100 million in local facilities. In return, Pennsylvania will provide Bayer with as much as $1.7 million in financial incentives, including a $1 million grant and $700,000 in job-training assistance, according to Dennis Yablonsky, community and economic development secretary.
